VTDigger: Faculty union settles labor dispute with UVM over Covid planning

The administration has begun impact bargaining with UA and has agreed to the union’s demand for the UA President to join the UVM Strong planning committee and for UA to appoint representatives to each of the 4 working groups on fall planning. As a result of these immediate victories, UA has settled the current unfair labor practice charge.

United Academics files Unfair Labor Practice Against UVM Administration: 7/1/20

United Academics files Unfair Labor Practice Against UVM Administration

This is the first time in their 19-year history that the UVM faculty union has filed an Unfair Labor Practice against UVM. The charge details how the administration has---by virtue of excluding United Academics from the fall 2020 semester planning process---violated their duty to bargain the impact of any changes to terms and conditions of faculty employment ("impact bargaining").

UA supporting local organizations with Covid-19 relief

This week, United Academics made donations to four local organizations to support their work meeting the extraordinary needs in our community at this time. Thank you to UA members who recommended organizations during our discussion at the Members Meeting or sent us suggestions via email. United Academics donated to: the United Way of Northwest Vermont (where donations are currently being matched), A New Place providing temporary housing at North Beach), the Peace and Justice Center, and the UVM Pandemic Response Fund to support student emergency travel funds. We are so pleased to be able to support a number of local organizations doing important work.
